Stormzone, la banda de Harv ha sido comparada en numerosas ocasiones con Iron Maiden y aunque esta es una comparación que obviamente les gusta, piensan que su forma de tocar Heavy Metal es única y personal. Aún así, a veces disfrutan rindiendo tributo a Iron Maiden tocando las canciones del legendario grupo durante los ensayos de Stormzone. Aquí tenéis un enlace donde podéis escuchar algunas versiones.

Iron Maiden son sin duda una de las bandas más grandes y famosas del mundo y Harv ha tenido varias oportunidades a lo largo de los años de estar cerca de los miembros de la banda. Algunas experiencias fueron un poco más cercanas que otras; Bruce Dickinson pinchó una serie  de temas de la banda de Harv Stormzone en su programa de radio Friday Rock Show y recomendó  la banda de Harv a todos sus oyentes. No es una conexión demasiado cercana con los miembros de la banda, pero seguid leyendo para ver cómo se desarrolla la historia.
Qué os parece si hablamos de la ocasión en 1993 en la que Harv pasó unas vacaciones en Portugal y viajó a Faro para visitar el bar de Steve Harris, bajista de Iron Maiden, el "Eddie´s Bar", encontrándoselo cerrado por reforma! Sintiéndose evidentemente muy decepcionado fue a un restaurante cercano para tomarse una cerveza antes de volver a Praya de Rocha y cuando le contó al camarero su fallido intento de entrar en el Eddie´s Bar , este le comentó que el chico que se ocupaba del bar era portugués y se llamaba Manu Da Silva. Era de hecho uno de los técnicos de luces de Iron Maiden cuando la banda estaba de gira, pero siendo residente en Faro era quien se encargaba del bar durante las épocas de descanso de Iron Maiden. El camarero le aseguró a Harv que Manu estaba a punto de aparecer por el restaurante aquel mismo día pues solía comer allí a menudo. Efectivamente llegó un poco más tarde y el camarero se lo presentó a Harv; se tomaron unas cervezas y charlaron y antes de darse cuenta se habían pasado bastantes horas y entre ellos se había creado un vínculo. Tanto que cuando el restaurante cerró Manu invitó a Harv a su casa para tomarse la última y enseñarle algunos videos de competiciones de boxeo en las que él había participado. Además Manu quería escuchar una maqueta del grupo de Harv que este llevaba con él a todas partes, una cinta cassette de las de la época con seis temas de su por aquel entonces banda, Den of Thieves.
Antes de dirigirse a la casa, Manu abrió el Eddie´s Bar para que Harv pudiera echar un vistazo. Estaba un poco patas arriba pues el lugar estaba siendo remodelado y redecorado pero fue increible ver todos los decorados originales del Powerslave y otros objetos interesantísimos de varias giras de Maiden, así como los bajos originales de Steve Harris de todo tipo y sus propios recuerdos personales de las giras! La casa de Manu por lo visto no estaba demasiado lejos así que él se subió en su Harley y Harv le siguió en el coche alquilado que tenía en Portugal. Tras un corto viaje hacia la colina se acercaron a unas puertas blindadas eléctricas que se abrían hacia una entrada muy amplia que llevaba hasta una increíble casa situada en las colinas de Faro. Harv estaba muy sorprendido de que Manu fuera el dueño de aquella casa, era evidente que Iron Maiden le pagaban muy bien cuando estaban de gira, aunque el hecho de que Manu tuviera que trabajar en el Eddie´s Bar cuando el grupo no estaba de gira le hizo pensar a Harv que no podía ser un tío muy rico. El caso es que este lugar era impresionante, una casa realmente al estilo de las de Beverly Hills, con una piscina, ventanas enormes con vistas increibles y absolutamente enorme y preciosa. Manu llevó a Harv a un área de la casa dedicada exclusivamente a ver cine y jugar, con una pantalla gigante, una mesa de billar y una zona para jugar a los dardos y también algo que extrañó mucho a Harv, las paredes de la habitación estaban llenas de discos de oro y platino de las enormes ventas de discos de Iron Maiden así como cuadros originales de Derek Riggs, el artista que diseñó las portadas de los discos de Iron Maiden y una serie de objetos enmarcados que le hicieron preguntarse a Harv cómo era posible que un técnico de luces pudiera permitirse ese estilo de vida. Manu puso el video del combate de boxeo y fue estupendo verle en acción, era un boxeador muy bueno, pero después de un rato todo lo que quería hacer Harv era mirar todos los objetos que colgaban de las paredes. Manu se dio cuenta y le preguntó si prefería escuchar la maqueta que había traido de su grupo Den of Thieves, pero Harv no quería ofenderle y le dijo que no, que prefería ver el combate de boxeo, momento en el que Manu dijo "casi mejor, porque Steve es el único que sabe cómo funciona este equipo de sonido". La boca de Harv se abrió hasta límites insospechados cuando se dio cuenta de que allí estaba, no en casa de Manu, sino en la casa portuguesa de Steve Harris, entendiendo de repente por qué había tantos objetos valiosos de Iron Maiden y tanta parafernalia fantástica adornando las muchas paredes de la mansión! Harv ciertamente disfrutó del resto del tiempo que pasó allí estudiándolo todo tan de cerca y Manu le invitó a que volviera otro día pero Harv se volvía a Belfast en tan solo un par de días y la distancia a su hotel era bastante grande y además, algunas cosas es mejor dejarlas como un único gran recuerdo, especialmente si es un recuerdo tan estupendo. Esa experiencia en casa de Steve Harris permanecerá con Harv para siempre! Manu tristemente falleció solo unos pocos años más tarde, era un auténtico caballero, claramente una persona amable y considerada y un magnífico personaje!
Harv también tuvo el privilegio de que Manu se quedara con su maqueta, diciendo "Voy a asegurarme de que seas el próximo cantante de Iron Maiden!". Bruce Dickinson acababa de dejar la banda unos meses antes del encuentro de Harv con Manu en la casa de Steve Harris y le había asegurado que pondría personalmente la maqueta en las manos del bajista de Iron Maiden la próxima vez que estuviera en Portugal. Básicamente le iba a obligar a escucharla!! Quizás eso ocurrió de verdad, y Harv nos asegura que cuando el boxeador Manu te pedía hacer algo, lo hacías! Pero lamentablemente para Harv, cuando Steve Harris volvió a Portugal Blaze Bayley ya había sido escogido y presentado internacionalmente como el nuevo cantante de Iron Maiden, de modo que si Steve Harris le escuchó cantar o no, fue demasiado tarde, aunque a lo mejor la maqueta de Harv aún está esperando en su caja al lado del equipo de sonido de la casa de Steve Harris, nunca se sabe!

Pero creo que os escucho decir que como Steve Harris no estaba allí, ¿Harv no estuvo lo suficientemente cerca de Iron Maiden? Bien, qué tal si contamos entonces la ocasión en la que Harv pasó toda una tarde en compañía del carismático manager de Iron Maiden, Rod Smallwood! El legendario agente de artistas Steve Strange invitó a Harv a la Ceremonia de Entrega de Premios de Rock en Londres y siendo un buen amigo del manager de Maiden, Steve Strange y Harv fueron invitados también a la fiesta que tuvo lugar después de la ceremonia, donde Harv logró secuestrar a Rod Smallwood probablemente durante más tiempo del que Rod hubiera querido, pero Harv tenía la intención de sacar tanto provecho de aquella oportunidad como pudiera, hasta el punto de descubrir que Rod es manager de una sola banda, dedicado única y exclusivamente a todo lo relativo a Iron Maiden, siempre ha sido así y siempre lo será!

¿No? ¿Todavía no consideráis que estuvo lo suficientemente cerca de la banda? Bien, entonces concentrémonos en la razón principal de esta entrada del blog, que es el increible honor que fue para Stormzone, la banda de Harv, cuando el cantante original de Iron Maiden, Paul Martin Di ´Anno recientemente compartió en su página oficial de Facebook uno de los videos de Stormzone, "Greatest Sacrifice"! Para los que aún no se sientan satisfechos y quieran otra historia más interesante relativa a Iron Maiden, os contamos a continuación una experiencia personal que Harv tuvo con el legendario y original cantante de Iron Maiden Paul Di´Anno en 1994.

Harv aún estaba en su antigua banda, Den of Thieves en aquella época y les habían pedido que telonearan a Killers, la banda de Paul Di´Anno en la sala Limelight de Belfast. Era una gran oportunidad en aquel momento pues en esos años el rock y el metal no estaban precisamente en su apogeo, con el movimiento grunge haciéndole sombra al rock, así que tener a una leyenda como Paul Di ´Anno tocando en Belfast y tener la oportunidad de telonear a su grupo frente a una multitud como la que el cantante atraía no era nada fácil! Den of Thieves había tocado también la noche anterior en otra sala y Harv se había olvidado su bolsa con toda su "parafernalia" para salir al escenario y no se dio cuenta de esto hasta llegar a la sala Limelight, pues la noche anterior habían metido todo el equipo en el autobús de la banda para llevarlo directamente a la siguiente sala, así que llegó allí básicamente con lo puesto. Den of Thieves hicieron la prueba de sonido y todo fue bien, tanto que el mismo Paul Di´Anno, que había estado viendo la prueba de sonido, le dijo a Harv que era "un gran cantante" cuando este se dirigía a los camerinos para prepararse para el concierto. Harv estaba encantado de que Paul Di´Anno le considerara un gran cantante, especialmente porque hasta día de hoy, Harv admira los dos primeros discos de Iron Maiden (los que grabó Paul Di´Anno) por encima de muchos de los que la banda grabó después de la marcha de Paul; los dos primeros álbumes le llenan con la innovadora sensación que transmitía la New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) que se generó cuando bandas como Iron Maiden, Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang y Praying Mantis crearon los cimientos para lo que hoy en día consideramos Heavy Metal, pero uno tenía que estar allí en esa época para entender cómo te hacía sentir este nuevo estilo de música. Así que aunque Bruce Dickinson es un cantante fantástico Harv aún adora los primeros dos discos de Iron Maiden por haber tenido una mayor influencia en él cuando era un joven heavy!
Así que el piropo de Paul Di ´Anno le llenó de orgullo y aún sonreía cuando llegó al camerino para cambiarse para el concierto, pues las puertas iban a abrirse poco después de que Paul Di ´Anno probara sonido. La mayor preocupación de Harv en ese momento era qué ropa iba a ponerse! De camino al camerino de Den of Thieves pasó por una habitación que tenía la puerta abierta y vio un perchero con varias prendas de ropa, entre ellas una camiseta de Therapy? Screamager. Como esta banda norirlandesa estaba a punto de convertirse en lo más grande, Harv pensó que sería una buena idea ponerse esta camiseta, pues quedaría muy bien llevar una camiseta de un grupo local y así ser también un poco diferente, pues Therapy? tocaban rock, pero un rock muy alejado del heavy metal clásico de Den of Thieves. Además, tampoco tenía elección, pues toda su ropa "de escenario" había sido olvidada en la otra sala la noche anterior, así que pensó que había sido un golpe de buena suerte que alguien se hubiera dejado esta camiseta de Therapy? en el Limelight, en una habitación que tenía toda la pinta de ser la típica habitación donde se guardan los "objetos perdidos". La camiseta le quedaba un poco grande pero no le importaba, estaba demasiado nervioso por el concierto y salieron al escenario para tocar durante 45 minutos. La banda lo había dado todo y con un Harv chorreando de sudor pues había hecho muchos más esfuerzos en ser una auténtica rockstar para impresionar a Paul Di´Anno, después del cumplido que le había hecho! Cuando volvieron al camerino Paul Di ´Anno le estaba esperando; había estado viendo el concierto y de nuevo le dijo a Harv que había cantado muy bien.También le dijo que había escogido muy bien la ropa para salir al escenario, diciendo que él también era un gran fan de Therapy? y que de hecho estaba pensando llevar una camiseta de Therapy? durante su concierto. A Harv se le heló la sangre cuando escuchó esto y Paul Di ´Anno debió notarlo, pues Harv se quedó mirándole con los ojos muy fijos y una sonrisa estúpida en la cara mientras susurraba "gracias" entre dientes y se iba alejando lentamente sin dejar de mirarle para seguidamente ir aumentando el paso hasta salir corriendo de allí y subir las escaleras como una exhalación, huyendo como un gamo, dándose cuenta de que se había puesto la camiseta de Therapy? de Paul Di ´Anno para salir a tocar y por eso le quedaba demasiado grande! Harv pensaba en ese momento que Paul Di ´Anno era un tío enorme que cuando descubriera que le había quitado la camiseta le iba a matar! El nombre de su grupo, Killers (asesinos) empezaba a cobrar un mayor significado para Harv! Rápidamente se quitó la camiseta y le pidió al bajista de su grupo, Peter, que le prestara su secador de pelo y trató desesperadamente de secarla pero fue en vano, nunca iba a secarse a tiempo pues Killers tenían que salir al escenario en 30 minutos pero Paul querría vestirse mucho antes de salir! La mejor opción de Harv fue colgar de nuevo la camiseta en la percha y esperar que Paul no quisiera ponérsela porque estaba demasiado húmeda debido a...la humedad de la habitación o algo...O algo. Harv no podía pensar con claridad y su único objetivo era evitar que el ex cantante legendario de Iron Maiden le diera un puñetazo en la cara! Harv devolvió la camiseta, se cambió y junto al resto de Den of Thieves se fueron a mezclar con el público para ver el concierto de Killers y para su sorpresa, allí apareció Paul Di ´Anno, llevando su camiseta de Therapy?, la misma camiseta! Estaba empapada de sudor, pero a él obviamente no le había importado y se la había puesto igualmente. A lo mejor la esperanza que tenía Harv de que Paul pensara que era debido a la humedad de la habitación iba a salvarle! Killers por supuesto fueron increibles durante 90 minutos de concierto de puro metal. Tras el concierto Harv estaba seguro, el pobre inocente, de que Paul Di´Anno, después de haber dado ese pedazo de concierto se había olvidado de que la camiseta que había llevado estaba empapada cuando se la había puesto. Harv tragó saliva y se acercó a Paul, quien todavía rojo y sudoroso puso su enorme cuerpo delante de Harv y le dijo "Bueno tío, ¿qué te ha parecido?". En ese momento Harv se sintió como si le hubiera tocado la lotería y le dijo que tanto él como su banda eran fantásticos. Entonces Paul puso su mano en el hombro de Harv y le dijo "Sí tío, siempre es un buen concierto cuando ambas bandas tienen buenos cantantes" y cuando Harv empezaba a tener una verdadera sensación de alivio, craso error, Paul Di ´Anno le agarró y le arrastró hacia él, y poniendo la cabeza de Harv bajo su brazo, medio estragulándole, le dijo "pero seas o no seas un buen cantante, si alguna vez vuelves a ponerte mi puta camiseta voy a cavar un hoyo en el suelo, te voy a enterrar hasta que solo se te vea la cabeza, le voy a dar patadas y voy a saltar encima de los trozos pegajosos que queden de ella"; momento en el que le dejó ir, le pasó el brazo por encima del hombro y le dijo "y ahora que hemos aclarado esto, vamos a tomarnos una cerveza!" Cuando la sangré volvió a circular por el cuerpo de Harv y pudo encontrar calzoncillos nuevos que ponerse, (que dicho sea de paso, no los robó del camerino de Paul Di´Anno) pasaron muchas horas juntos aquella noche, hablando de muchas cosas diferentes, una noche en la que Harv aprendió algunas lecciones valiosas, la vida en la carretera es dura, pero no te olvides de tu bolsa con la ropa de escenario, no cojas lo que no es tuyo y lo que es más importante, no toques las camisetas de Paul Di ´Anno!!

Así que ahí lo tenéis, dudo mucho que haya alguien que haya estado tan cerca de un miembro de Iron Maiden, por lo menos de esta forma tan curiosa. Una divertida aventura con el cantante original de Iron Maiden! Es increíble que verdaderamente Paul Di ´Anno se tomara la molestia de compartir un video que protagoniza el cantante que "tomó prestada" su camiseta de Therapy?. Sin embargo no olvidemos que la banda en la que Harv cantaba en ese momento se llamaba, después de todo, Den of Thieves! (Cueva de Ladrones!).

Harv´s band Stormzone have often been compared to Iron Maiden and it is a comparison that they never shied from but although they believe their own brand of heavy metal to be unique to them, at times they enjoy paying tribute to Iron Maiden by performing their songs during rehearsals. Iron Maiden are undoubtedly one of the biggest bands in the world and Harv has had several opportunities over the years to get close to members of the band. Some experiences were a little closer than others, Bruce Dickinson played a series of Stormzone songs on his Friday Rock Show radio programme and recommended them very highly to his vast array of listeners. Not a terribly close physical connection I grant you, but it's worth persevering here to see how this develops.

How about the time in 1993 when Harv spent a holiday in Portugal and travelled to Faro to visit Steve Harris's Eddie's Bar only to find it closed for renovations! Feeling obviously very disappointed he went to a nearby restaurant to have a beer before heading back to Praya De Rocha, he told the waiter about his failed quest and he informed Harv that the guy who looked after the bar was Portuguese and called Manu Da Silva. He was actually one of the the Iron Maiden lighting engineers when the band was on tour but being a Faro resident he was given charge of Eddie's Bar during any Iron Maiden down time. The waiter assured him that Manu was due to appear in the same restaurant that he was now in for his lunch. He did indeed arrive a little while later, they were introduced, shared a few beers, hit it off right away and before Harv knew it quite a few hours had passed during which time they had really bonded. So much so that when the restaurant closed he invited Harv to his house for more beers and to see some footage of him taking part in some of the boxing competitions he had competed in, plus he wanted to hear a demo that Harv had been carrying around with him, a six track cassette of his band back then, Den Of Thieves.

Before they made their way to the house he opened Eddie's Bar to let Harv have a look around. It was in a bit of a state as the place was being refurbished and re-decorated, but it was amazing to see all the original Powerslave props and other wonderful items from various Maiden tours to that point as well as original Steve Harris bass guitars and all sorts of his personal Maiden memorabilia up close and personal before leaving for the drinks at Manu's place. His house apparently wasn't too far away, he jumped onto a Harley motorcycle and Harv followed him in his hired car. After a short journey into the hills they approached a set of electric gates which opened to reveal a long driveway leading to a wonderful house set in the Faro hills. Harv was amazed that Manu could own such a place, it was obvious that Iron Maiden would pay him well when they were touring, but the fact that Manu had to run Eddie's Bar when they were off the road kind of told Harv that he wasn't a very wealthy man. But this place was magnificent, a real Beverly Hills type of place, swimming pool, massive windows overlooking beautiful views, and inside it was spacious and beautiful. Once through the doors it was operation beer time and boxing video, and Manu brought Harv to an area of the house obviously dedicated to leisure complete with pool table, darts, massive tv and something that he thought was quite unusual. Around the walls were gold and platinum discs for Iron Maiden's multitude of sales worldwide as well as original Derek Riggs artwork, the artist who designed Iron Maiden album covers and a plethora of framed items which made him wonder how a lighting engineer could possibly acquire all these rare and valuable items. Manu put on the boxing video and it was great seeing him in action, he was a really good fighter, but after a while all Harv wanted to do was look at the paintings on the walls. Manu sensed this and asked if he would rather listen to the Den Of Thieves demo, and not wanting to hurt him Harv told him to just keep the boxing on at which point he said, 'maybe just as well because Steve is the only one who can work out how this sound system works' at which point Harv´s jaw hit the floor when he realised that here he was, not in Manu's home, but in Steve Harris's Portugal house, the reason hitting him right away as to why there was so much fantastic Iron Maiden paraphernalia adorning the mansion's many walls!! Harv certainly enjoyed the rest of his time there studying everything up close and personal, Manu invited him back but he was leaving in a few days and it was quite a drive from where he was staying and besides, sometimes things are best just left solely as a one-off memory, especially if it's a really good one, and that Iron Maiden experience will remain with Harv forever! Manu sadly passed away a few years later, he was a real gentleman, clearly a kind and considerate person and an absolute true character!!

Harv also has the absolute privilege of Manu keeping his demo and uttering the words 'I'm going to make sure that you are the next singer in Iron Maiden'! Bruce Dickinson had left the band some months before his encounter in Steve Harris's house and Manu had assured him that he would personally place Harv´s cassette tape in the Iron Maiden bass player's hands when he was next over in Portugal and basically force him to listen to it! Maybe that actually happened, and Harv can tell you that when Manu asks you to do something you do it, but unfortunately for him by the time Steve made his way to his Portuguese retreat Blaze Bayley had already been chosen and internationally revealed as the new Iron Maiden vocalist, so whether he heard Harv singing or not it was too late for yours truly, although maybe his demo tape is still in the cassette case beside Steve Harris's sound system, you never know!!

But still I hear you say that this was still not close enough as Steve Harris wasn't actually there? Hmmm! Well how about the time when Harv spent a whole evening in the company of Iron Maiden's charismatic manager Rod Smallwood! This after sharing a table at the Classic Rock awards in London with legendary music agent Steve Strange who had invited Harv as his guest and, being very close to the Maiden manager, they were fortunate enough to get an invite to the after show party in the Embassy Rooms where Harv managed to kidnap Rod for probably more time than was actually comfortable for him, but he was intent on getting as much from out of the opportunity as he could, to the extent that Harv discovered that Rod is a one band manager dedicated solely to everything Iron Maiden, always has been, always will be!

No? Not enough yet? Ok, so let's focus on the reason why this post is being written, and that's the exceptional honour that Stormzone received when original Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Martin Di'Anno recently took the time to share one of their videos for the Stormzone song 'Greatest Sacrifice' on his official facebook page! This is still not enough to satisfy those of you who want a more interesting Iron Maiden related story, but this next event is relevantly enough about a personal experience Harv had with the original legendary Iron Maiden frontman back in 1994.

Harv was still with his previous band Den Of Thieves back then and they had been asked to support Paul Di'Anno's band Killers in the Belfast Limelight venue. That was a huge opportunity back then because that period for rock and metal wasn't a particularly thriving one, the grunge movement was overshadowing the rock and metal genre, so having a legend like Paul Di'Anno playing in Belfast and then getting a chance to support him in front of a healthy Sunday night audience was not to be taken lightly! Harv´s band had played a show on their own the night before and he had unfortunately left his bag at the previous night's venue and he did not realise this until reaching the Limelight, because everything from the previous night´s show had been forwarded on in the band´s tour bus, so he arrived at the Limelight without his usual stage gear. Den of Thieves soundchecked at that phase of the proceedings went really well, to the extent that Paul Di'Anno, who had been present while we were checking, told me as Harv was making his way to the dressing rooms that he was a 'great singer'. Harv was really delighted to be getting a compliment from him, especially because to this day Harv truly favours the first two Iron Maiden albums above many others recorded after Paul left the band, they fill him with a real sense of the innovative atmosphere that the New wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) generated when bands such as Iron Maiden, Saxon, Tygers Of Pan Tang and Praying Mantis created the foundations for what we all enjoy as heavy metal today, I guess you really had to be there at that time to understand how amazing this new music made you feel. So although Bruce Dickinson is a fantastic singer Harv still adores the first two Maiden album as having a more powerful influence on him as a young metal-head!

So Paul Di'Anno's compliment was heart-warming and stayed in Harv´s head as he made his way to get changed for their show, the doors were opening shortly after the Paul Di'Anno soundcheck. Harv´s biggest concern at that point was what he was going to wear! On his way to the Den Of Thieves dressing room he passed an open door and there on a rail inside the room on a hanger was a Therapy? Screamager tshirt. As this Northern Ireland band were on the verge of making it really big he thought it would be a great idea to look cool wearing a local band's Tshirt and at the same time to look a little 'alternative' as Therapy? played rock music, but far removed from the sort of classic heavy metal Den Of Thieves were noted for playing! Plus he didn't really have a choice, his stage clothes had been left at the venue they had played in the night before and it was really fortunate that someone had left this Therapy? tshirt in the Limelight in a room which he thought at that time was simply a 'lost and found' room. Paul Di'Anno's dressing room was several doors along. Harv didn't have any time to work that out, they were on stage shortly and he just needed to get dressed get onstage to sing!! The Tshirt was a little big but he didn't really care, he was too excited about the show and we quickly made their way to the venue to deliver a 45 minute set and left the stage to a great reception, Harv was soaking in sweat having played under the heat of the Limelight lights and also having put a little extra into the performance because of Paul's earlier compliment. Harv was particularly pleased to be getting congratulatory slaps on the back as they made their way through the audience back to their room then to see that Paul Di'Anno had been watching their show, and again he told Harv that he had sang really well and also congratulated him on his choice of stage wear, saying that he was also a massive fan of Therapy? and he was actually planning on wearing a Therapy? Tshirt during his set. Harv´s blood froze and Paul must have noticed that as Harv just stood looking blankly at him with a stupid grin on his face as he whispered 'thank you' through gritted teeth and backed off slowly before increasing speed as he got further away from him and then rushing up the stairs in blind panic realising that he had actually worn Paul Di'Anno's Therapy? Tshirt during his band's performance, and it was no wonder that the garment was too big for Harv because Paul Di'Anno is a very powerfully built guy and once he found out what had happened he was probably going murder him. The name of his band, Killers, was going to be an exceptionally appropriate moniker!! Harv quickly removed the Tshirt and asked his bass player Peter for a lend of his hair dryer and tried desperately to dry it but this was in vain, it was never going to be ready in time as Killers were due to begin performing in 30 minutes but Paul would have been wanting to get into his stage gear before that! Harv´s best bet was to put the t shirt back on it's hanger and hope that Paul would feel that it was too damp to wear but to maybe assume that it was from condensation in the room or something, anything, he wasn't thinking too clearly and his sole objective at that point was to avoid a punch in the face from the ex Iron Maiden legend! He had obviously chosen to have a dressing room of his own as it was available and he could warm up his vocals without annoying the rest of the band in their separate dressing room. Harv replaced the Tshirt, got dried off and with the rest of Den of Thieves they made their way to be among the audience to watch the Killers show and, to Harv´s amazement, on jumped Paul Di'Anno wearing the Therapy? Tshirt, the same one! It must have felt wet to him but he obviously hadn't cared and wore it anyway!! Maybe Harv´s hope that he had believed the room to be damp was going to save the day! Killers ripped their way through 90 minutes of blistering metal before they themselves ended their performance and made their way from off the Limelight stage. At this point Harv was now quietly, but probably stupidly, confident that Paul Di'Anno, having powered his way through a great set, would maybe have forgotten that the Tshirt he had worn was wet when he had put it on. Harv stood and gulped in anticipation as he made his way to the same place where they were standing and where he had congratulated him after the Den of Thieves soundcheck. He stopped and looked at Harv and with steam coming from his heaving frame he asked him 'Well, what did you think mate?' at which point Harv thought all his Christmas's had arrived at the same time and he told Paul that he thought he and the band were fantastic! He then put his hand on Harv´s shoulder and said 'Yeah mate, it's always a great show when both bands have good singers' and Harv was beginning to feel a real sense of relief, which was a mistake as Paul grabbed him towards him and put Harv´s head under his arm in a stranglehold adding ' but good singer or not, if you ever wear my fucking t-shirt again I'm going to dig a hole, bury you up to your scrawny neck, kick your head off and jump all over the fucking sticky bits' at which point he let Harv go, put his arm around his shoulder and said 'well, now we've got that cleared up, let's go and get a beer'!! When the blood returned to Harv´s face and he managed to find some new underwear, which it must stressed at this stage, Harv did not steal from Paul Di ´Anno, he then spent a long time talking to the great man for much of the remaining night and learned some valuable lessons, life on the road is tough, but don't forget your gig bag, don't take what's not yours and most importantly don't fuck about with Paul Di'Anno's t-shirts!!

So there we have it, I'm sure you'll agree that there are not too many closer Iron Maiden encounters than this one, a real adventure with the original singer! It is amazing that Paul Di'Anno actually took the time to share a video featuring a singer who 'borrowed' his Therapy? tshirt. However I think it may have escaped most people's attention that Harv´s band at the time was, after all, called Den Of Thieves!!
