Hoy es un día muy significativo para este blog dedicado a un artista norirlandés por dos razones principalmente: primero el increíble logro de alcanzar más de 5.000 visitas en un blog dedicado a su trabajo como artista y en segundo lugar ese orgullo es añadido al hecho de que su país de origen está a punto de embarcarse en un viaje en la Eurocopa 2016 siguiendo los pasos de otras muchas leyendas que han probado el éxito con anterioridad.
Irlanda del Norte es un país muy chiquitito comparado con algunas de las grandes potencias que participan en este evento futbolístico. aunque ni que decir tiene que esta nación ha dado a luz en el pasado a grandes estrellas del deporte como Joey Dunlop, Alex Higgins, Rory Mcilroy, Barry McGuigan, Dennis Taylor, Mary Peters, Graham McDowell, Darren Clarke, Martin O´Neill, Willie John MacBride y Pat Jennings entre muchos otros, aunque por supuesto el jugador de fútbol norirlandés más reconocido mundialmente como uno de los mejores jugadores del mundo es la leyenda del este de Belfast George Best. Reconocido como "el mejor jugador de fútbol del mundo" por el propio Pelé, el legendario genio brasileño del balón reconoció que los logros de George Best superaban incluso a los suyos propios porque a diferencia de Pelé, George Best provenía de uno de los equipos más humildes de fútbol en uno de los países más pequeños.
Como muchos de los norirlandeses a día de hoy, George hubiera estado increíblemente orgulloso de ver al ejército verdiblanco que él mismo representó de manera tan brillante (y tristemente tan breve) y estamos seguros de que al igual que la leyenda que él creó, todos los fans norirlandeses alrededor del mundo se unirán en apoyo al equipo de Irlanda del Norte haciendo que este ejército futbolístico verdiblanco de seguidores sea tan famoso y tan protagonista en las gradas del escenario europeo como el propio equipo de fútbol.

Today is highly significant for a blog about an artist from Northern Ireland on two counts: firstly the significant achievement of seeing a blog dedicated to his artwork reaching a staggering amount of more than 5,000 visitors and secondly the pride in that statistic being shared by the fact that his home nation is about to embark on our Euro 2016 journey, following in the footsteps of many other Northern Ireland legend who have made a mark on the world before them.
Northern Ireland is a tiny country compared to many of the other massive nations taking part in this year´s competition, but of course has in the past we have produced some world famous sporting heroes such as Joey Dunlop, Alex Higgins, Rory McIlroy, Barry McGuigan, Dennis Taylor, Mary Peters, Graham McDowell, Darren Clarke, Martin O´Neill, Willie John MacBride and Pat Jennings amongst many others, but of course the most famous Ulster icon, recognised around the world as one of football´s greatest players ever, is the East Belfast legend George Best. Established as world class by Pelé himself, the Brazilian legend made the significant statement that George´s achievements on the field of play are even more highly rated because, unlike Pelé himself, George came from one of football´s smallest countries. Like many of us today George would have been exceptionally proud to see the green and white army he so brilliantly (and sadly briefly) represented himself and I am sure like the legend he created, Northern Ireland supporters round the world will unite behind Northern Ireland making the green and white army of our wee country as famous on the European stage as the fantastic team itself.
